Electronics consumers in India face higher costs brands like Apple, Samsung, Dell, and Asus are raising the cost of smartphones and laptops in India. This is happening because a global shortage of memory chips is forcing companies to pay more for parts. These chips are going to big data centers for artificial intelligence instead of your personal gadgets. Indian buyers will feel the pinch as flagship phones and budget laptops carry higher price tags than last year.

High Demand for AI Chips Hits Indian Buyers

Basically, the memory chips inside your phone are the same ones needed for big AI systems. Companies like Google and Meta are buying these parts in huge quantities to run services like ChatGPT and Gemini. Look, there is only a limited supply of Random Access Memory or RAM in the world. Since these big firms pay more for chips, there is less left for the phones and computers we buy in local shops. Actually, let me put that more simply. The brain of your phone is getting more expensive because big computers are hogging all the parts.

Samsung and SK Hynix make most of these chips and they say the gap between supply and demand will grow until 2027. Honestly, this means your next phone might cost a few thousand rupees more than you planned. You might be wondering if this affects every brand in India. I checked the latest prices and the answer is yes.

Apple and Samsung Raise Their Rates

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently said that high memory costs are hitting their business. In India, we can already see this with the new iPhone 17e. It launched at ₹64,990 which is ₹5,000 more than the older model. Wait, before we look at other brands, you should know Apple also changed their Mac mini options to make the starting price higher. Samsung is doing the same thing with their Galaxy A, F, and M series which are very popular here. Even the premium Galaxy S26 Ultra costs more than the S25 did when it arrived.

Budget Phones and Laptops Are Not Safe

It is not just the expensive stuff getting a price hike. Smartphone Brands like Xiaomi, Realme, and Motorola are increasing prices for the Redmi Note and Moto G series too. I saw that laptops from Dell and Asus are also becoming harder to buy at older prices. Experts believe that by late 2026, about 70% of all memory chips will go straight to data centers. (That is a huge amount of hardware leaving the consumer market).

This trend shows that the days of cheap, high-RAM devices are pausing for a while. You should probably buy your new gadget sooner rather than later if you want to save money. We will have to wait and see if prices ever come back down to normal levels.
