Ferrari finally launched its first ever electric car named Luce and it packs a massive 1050hp punch. This four door grand tourer comes from a special partnership with LoveForm, which is the design company started by Jony Ive of Apple fame.
It marks a huge change for the Italian brand because they are moving away from loud petrol engines to quiet but very fast electric motors. You can now book one globally if you have about Rs 6.10 crore plus the heavy Indian taxes to spare.
This Ferrari has many firsts for the brand
- It is the first Ferrari to ever run fully on electric power.
- The car fits five people which is a first for their sporty lineup.
- You get four electric motors that give you all wheel drive.
- It has the lowest air resistance of any Ferrari road car ever.
- The wheels are huge with 23 inches at the front and 24 at the back.
Look, I know what you are thinking. A Ferrari without the roar of a V12 engine sounds a bit strange at first. Honestly, once you see the speed of this machine, those doubts will probably vanish. The Luce hits 100kph in just 2.5 seconds. Actually, the design looks very different because they did not use the old engine layout. Jony Ive and his team used a clean style where a colored shell sits over a black passenger area.
This car is even longer than the Purosangue SUV. It measures over five meters in length. Ferrari made it very slippery to cut through the air easily. Basically, they even hid the wipers at the side of the glass so the air flows better.
Power and Performance
- The quad motor system produces 990Nm of turning force.
- You can reach a top speed of 310kph on a track.
- One full charge gives you an estimated range of 530km.
- Active cooling fins at the front open up when the battery needs air.
I tested many fast cars over the years, but 1050hp in a five seater is quite wild. You get a lot of space inside because there is no big engine block or gearbox tunnel taking up room. The battery sits flat on the floor. This helps the car stay stable even though it sits higher than a normal supercar. Look, Ferrari says this car is meant for long trips across countries.
With a 530km range, you can actually plan a decent road trip without worrying every ten minutes. Actually, they used a lot of carbon fiber to keep the weight down. Even the underbody is shaped to push the car down onto the road at high speeds.
My Verdict
I feel the Luce is a bold step that had to happen eventually. Honestly, seeing a Ferrari with five seats and no exhaust pipe feels like the future is already here. It looks beautiful and the speed is simply mind blowing for a car of this size. While petrol fans might miss the noise, the sheer tech inside this car is hard to ignore. If you want the most advanced electric car in the world and money is no object, this is it.
