Airtel has shared new data on the progress of its Xstream Fiber broadband service, and the numbers point to a period of rapid expansion. According to the company, Xstream Fiber has recorded more than 50 percent year on year growth in home passes. Airtel has also crossed a nationwide fibre footprint of over 5,00,000 kilometres, signalling a strong rise in the demand for high speed home internet across India.
A Growing Market for Connected Homes
Speaking to Gadgets 360, Airtel said the way Indian households use technology is changing fast. The number of connected homes that rely on smart TVs, streaming devices, smart appliances, and always on broadband is increasing steadily. Airtel expects this market to double from 50 million to 100 million homes over the next few years.
The company describes the current phase as a land grab moment where broadband operators are racing to expand coverage and bring in new customers before the market settles. To stay ahead, Airtel is pushing an aggressive fibre rollout to strengthen its presence in the home broadband space.
The Xstream Ecosystem Approach
A big part of Airtel’s strategy is the Xstream ecosystem which bundles broadband, live TV, and OTT streaming apps into a single platform. Xstream started in 2019 as a fibre to the home service for metro cities and has now grown to more than 1,100 cities including tier 2 and tier 3 regions.
Airtel pairs its broadband service with hardware like the Xstream Box and Xstream Smart TVs that run on Google TV. By offering subscription bundles that mix internet, live channels, and OTT apps, Airtel is positioning Xstream as a complete home entertainment solution while keeping broadband at the core of the experience.
