Maruti Suzuki is preparing for one of its biggest product offensives yet. India’s largest carmaker has already confirmed plans to launch eight new SUVs in the country before the end of this decade, alongside four new electric vehicles by 2030.
The company is taking a multi-powertrain approach, focusing on petrol, CNG, hybrid, and flex-fuel engines to cater to every segment of the market.
Expanding into New Segments
While SUVs will take center stage in Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming lineup, the brand isn’t turning its back on small cars. In fact, it’s working on an all-new micro SUV, set to debut around 2026–27.
This new model will sit below the Brezza in the company’s SUV portfolio and will directly rival popular compact SUVs like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter.
Introducing an Affordable Hybrid Powertrain
One of Maruti Suzuki’s biggest upcoming innovations is its affordable hybrid engine, designed specifically for mass-market models.
The first car expected to use this powertrain is the Maruti Suzuki Fronx facelift, which will pair a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with hybrid tech for improved efficiency.
The same setup is likely to be used in the upcoming micro SUV, offering consumers a fuel-efficient alternative without a steep price jump. Petrol and CNG options will also be available to keep running costs low.
Moving Upmarket: Premium SUVs and More
Maruti Suzuki is also stepping into the premium SUV space as part of its goal to capture 50% of the Indian car market.
The company is developing a premium midsize SUV and an all-new 7-seater SUV to take on segment leaders like the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.
An upgraded Grand Vitara is also in the works — rumored to offer enhanced features inspired by the Toyota Victors platform — along with the next-generation Brezza, which is already under development.
Boosting Production for a Global Push
To support its expanding lineup, Maruti Suzuki plans to increase production capacity to four million units annually by 2030. Out of this, one million units will be earmarked for export markets, reinforcing the company’s growing international footprint.
The Next Step in Hybrid Tech: Series Hybrid Innovation
Maruti Suzuki is developing an all-new series hybrid powertrain, which will reportedly be cheaper to produce than its existing Series Parallel hybrid systems.
This setup combines a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, a compact battery pack, and an electric motor, with an impressive target fuel efficiency of over 35 km/l.
If successful, this could make hybrid technology accessible to a much wider audience — giving Indian buyers a real-world alternative to both pure petrol and full-electric cars.
With eight new SUVs, four EVs, and a next-gen hybrid engine lineup in the pipeline, Maruti Suzuki is clearly gearing up for a transformative decade. From micro SUVs to premium 7-seaters and affordable hybrids, the automaker’s strategy reflects one goal — to make every Indian car buyer a Maruti customer, regardless of their budget or fuel preference.
