OnePlus has officially introduced the Android 16-based OxygenOS 16 update. The update promises smoother performance, but this is not the brand’s talking point — it’s AI. Aimed at making AI more helpful, several new features, including a major upgrade to Mind Space, have been introduced. Let’s check them all out and see when your phone will get the update.
OxygenOS 16 Features
OxygenOS 16 focuses on OnePlus AI and updates the Mind Space feature, introduced in June. The feature initially allowed you to save screenshots of on-screen data, and then AI would work its magic to extract information and create calendars, generate summaries, and more. Now, you will be able to save voice notes using Plus Mind and even save scrolling screenshots. These can be further analysed to generate titles and transcripts.
OnePlus has collaborated with Google to integrate Gemini into Mind Space. Therefore, searching for items in Mind Space would be easy with voice commands. Gemini will also use the information stored in Mind Space to answer your queries in a better way. Other AI-based features include,
- AI Writer to generate captions for a photo for different social media platforms.
- The ability to convert a text outline into a visual mind map, which will make planning easy.
- Smart titles and summaries for audio recordings.
- AI noise reduction for audio recordings.
- AI Portrait Glow to add proper lighting to a photo shot in otherwise poor lighting.
The OxygenOS 16 update also promises smoother performance with faster app loading and switching. The new Flux theme lets you add motion photos as wallpapers and allows for improved lock screen (and even home screen) customisations, inspired by iOS. The Fluid Cloud (which mimics Apple’s Dynamic Island) now supports food delivery, travel/navigation, live sports scores, media players, and timers.
There are several security features such as an Android-first Private Computing Cloud with CPU & GPU Protection, Call to Lock (makes the phone inaccessible if stolen), and SIM Lock (locks the phone if the SIM is removed without authorisation). The update also has easter eggs within the Calculator, OnePlus Dialer, and Boot-up Wizard.
OxygenOS 16 Release Timeline, Eligible Devices
