Former Flipkart executive Jayant Jha has introduced BytePe, a new subscription model for smartphones in India. The smartphone subscription service will allow you to buy expensive phones, such as the iPhone 17, at a relatively lower monthly cost. It also offers yearly upgrade options, akin to Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program in the US.
What is BytePe?
The company’s aim is simple: make premium smartphones more accessible to people without the burden of EMI costs that can last up to two years. The service will help you purchase the latest iPhone 17, 17 Air, or 17 Pro models at a simple monthly cost, with no hidden fees or lock-ins.
It is available for credit card users, but if you don’t have one, fret not. There’s the BytePe EMI option specifically meant for non-credit card users. The process is simple too; choose your preferred phone, subscribe to a simple monthly fee, and enjoy your premium phone experience.
With this model, you can upgrade to a new phone after 12 months, continue to use the existing phone and take full ownership, or return the model. This way, you will only pay for what you use. The BytePe subscription model is said to reduce EMI costs by up to 50%.
Commenting on the launch, Jayant Jha, Founder & CEO, BytePe, said,
Our vision is to democratise luxury by enabling millions of Indians to access the latest technology through a smarter, more flexible ownership model. This launch is not just about affordability; it’s about giving consumers a choice that’s lighter on their wallets, better for the environment, and truly on their terms. BytePe isn’t just a service; it’s a new way of thinking about ownership.
What All BytePe Offers?
Apart from lower monthly costs, the BytePe subscription model includes,
- One-time 100% damage protection.
- An upfront buying option with a year’s insurance and up to 50% buyback value at the end of 12 or 24 months.
The subscription model is currently for smartphones but will soon be expanded to categories like electronics and accessories.
