The Chinese automaker Chery has recently secured a design patent in India for its Tiggo 8 SUV. While the company has not yet released an official roadmap for the Indian market, this development indicates potential interest in launching the vehicle in the country. The following specifications are based on the international variant of the vehicle.
Powertrain and Dimensions
The international version of the Tiggo 8 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 241bhp and 390Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and a ZF all-wheel drive system. The SUV measures 4.7 metres in length, 1.9 metres in width, and 1.7 metres in height, with a 2.7-metre wheelbase, and is offered in a five-seat configuration.
Interior Features and Technology
Inside, the vehicle is equipped with a large 15.6-inch infotainment display, a 12-speaker audio system, and multi-color ambient lighting. Other technological features on the international model include a 540-degree panoramic view camera system, 50W wireless charging for compatible devices, and brown upholstery.
Safety and Potential Market Positioning
For safety, the Tiggo 8 is equipped with nine airbags, a built-in dashcam, and an Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite that includes 19 different functions. If launched in India, the SUV is projected to be positioned in the ₹30 lakh price segment. Its potential competitors would include models such as the Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XEV 9e, and Tata Harrier EV, as well as the Jeep Meridian and BYD Atto 3.
