Kawasaki, the well-known Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, has introduced the 2026 KLX230R S in the Indian market with prices starting at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom). This locally built model will be sold alongside the 2025 KLX230R S, which arrived earlier as a CKD import.
Aimed at riders who enjoy trails and dirt tracks, the bike remains true to its roots with strong off-road capabilities, easy handling, and the familiar KX-inspired styling. The launch also comes shortly after the brand reduced prices of the street-legal KLX230 in India.
Chassis and Design Updates
The 2025 international-spec version came with an aluminium chassis and swingarm. The new India-made 2026 Kawasaki KLX230R S, however, adopts a high-tensile steel frame and swingarm to suit local production. While the design is nearly identical, the riding posture has changed slightly thanks to forward-set handlebars, giving riders a more aggressive stance on trails.
Engine and Performance
At the heart of the 2026 Kawasaki KLX230R S sits a 233 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. It produces 19 hp at 8,000 rpm and 20 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm, paired with a six-speed transmission.
The bike now weighs 129 kg, making it about 14 kg heavier than the imported model. Despite the extra weight, it continues to promise strong trail performance.
Off-Road Equipment
The new KLX has been tuned to handle rough terrain with ease. It features long-travel suspension, including 37 mm telescopic front forks with 220 mm travel and a link-type monoshock at the rear offering 223 mm travel.
Other key highlights include:
-
Ground clearance of 270 mm
-
Seat height of 900 mm
-
Braking setup with a 290 mm single-disc at the front and 230 mm single-disc at the rear
-
Rugged 21/18-inch wire-spoke wheels wrapped in off-road tires
